Norsk Hydro to expand Canadian magnesium production facility.


Observing a demand increase for magnesium die castings die casting

Forming metal objects by injecting molten metal under pressure into dies or molds. An early and important use of the technique was in the Linotype machine (1884), but the mass-production automobile assembly line gave die casting its real impetus.
, Norsk Hydro Norsk Hydro ASA (OSE: NHY, NYSE: NHY) is a Norwegian aluminium and renewable energy company, headquartered in Oslo. Hydro is the fourth largest integrated aluminium company worldwide. It has operations in some 40 countries around the world and is active on all continents.  ASA Asa (ā`sə), in the Bible, king of Judah, son and successor of Abijah. When Baasha of Israel took Ramah (a few miles N of Jerusalem), Asa bought the help of Benhadad of Damascus and , Oslo, Norway, began expansion on its magnesium facility in Becancour, Quebec, Canada.

The project, which is expected to take one-and-a-half years to complete, will see a production increase of 7,000 tons to 58,000 tons of primary metal per year. The program will consist of improvements to dehydration dehydration

"The investment in Becancour is the latest step Hydro is taking to strengthen its leading market position in the magnesium industry," said Serge Huppe, head of Hydro Magnesium. "It shows we remain committed to serving customers and end users on a global basis."

In 2004, Hydro Magnesium doubled capacity at its facility in Bottrop, Germany. The company also operates facilities in Porsgrunn, Norway and Xi'an, China. The Becancour plant was built in the late 1980s.
