Nontraditional role for former LMDC administrator.


Nontraditional Employment for Women (NEW) announced that its Board of Directors has appointed Amy Peterson as acting president of the organization.

Peterson succeeds Anne Rascon, who is stepping down from the presidency after two years in the post.

Peterson is a former program administrator for the Lower Manhattan Lower Manhattan is the southernmost part of the island of Manhattan, the main island and center of business and government of the City of New York. Lower Manhattan is generally defined as the area delineated on the north by Chambers Street, on the west by the Hudson River (North  Development Corporation. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of the Building Trades Employers' Association, said, "Thanks to Mayor Bloomberg's recruitment campaign sponsored by the Mayor's Commission on Construction Opportunity, NEW's organization has gone from 5,000 inquires a year to 5,000 inquiries a month.

"We greatly appreciate all of Anne Rascon's hard work in bringing the organization to this level. We are looking forward to Amy's leadership to continue supporting the women of our city in 2007."

NEW enrolls women from disadvantaged communities in training and placement programs to become unionized carpenters, electricians, painters and elevator mechanics with health benefits and an average wage of $53,000.
