Nonsensical statement.

Your issue of October 31, 2005, contains in the article "Reconstruction and Reconquista" the following statement:

"In addition to supporting the suspension of Davis-Bacon provisions, [Gregory] Rodriguez also supports the Department of Homeland Security's decision to suspend, temporarily, the practice of 'sanctioning employers who hire workers who cannot document their citizenship.'"

The quoted statement is nonsense. First, the law does not provide for sanctions to be imposed on employers who employ aliens, only on those who employ illegal (undocumented) aliens. Second, that law has not been enforced for years. In fact, the Internal Revenue Service has a procedure for illegal aliens to obtain a Tax 1D number (not a Social Security number) so that their employers may deduct de·duct
