There are many kinds of furnaces, the type depending upon the fuel and the use to which the heat produced within it is put. Most familiar are the furnaces used in the heating of buildings. , which was designed for both continuous and batch melting aluminum operations as a durable, refractory-lined Adj. 1. refractory-lined - (of furnaces) lined with material that has a high melting point furnace that does not use crucibles. This feature on a small- to medium-size Adj. 1. medium-size - intermediate in size medium-sized, moderate-size, moderate-sized sized - having a specified size melting furnace eliminates the safety issue of operators placing cold, wet or moisture-bearing charge materials into a molten bath of aluminum.
