Nominees for FSCT Board of Directors.

The Federation of Societies for Coatings Technology has announced the slate of candidates for the three available positions on the 2007 FSCT Board of Directors. Dr. Fritz Walker, Chair of the FSCT Nominating Committee, has noted that three candidates were selected by the Committee, and two additional candidates were submitted by individual member petition.

The nominees who are elected will each serve three-year terms of office. They will join President Rose Ann Ryntz and Vice President Yasmin Sayed-Sweet, as well as six additional Board members, who were elected in 2006.

MARK D. ALGAIER

Mark Algaier is vice president, R & D, with Hillyard Industries, St. Joseph, MO. During his 31-year career in the coatings industry, he has also been employed with Cook Paint & Varnish Co. as a research chemist in its trade sales division. A graduate of the University of Missouri-Rolla with a B.S. Degree in Chemistry and Life Sciences, he holds an MBA Degree from Keller Graduate School and also received an honorary professional degree from the University of Missouri-Rolla in 2005.

Mr. Algaier served on the FSCT Board of Directors from 1994-1997 and again from 2004-2006. He was President of the Kansas City Society in 1990 and served as the Society's Bylaws Chair from 1998-2003. A member of the Consumer Specialties Product Association (CSPA) Board (2000-2003), he is also active in ASTM D-7 Committee on Wood, having served as a chair for the task group on wood floor coatings.

JOHN P. BERGHUIS

John Berghuis has been the district sales manager for Kronos Worldwide, in Mission, British Columbia, Canada, since 1984. Involved in the coatings industry for over 22 years, he was graduated with a BSc Degree in Biology and minor in Chemistry from Laurentian and McMaster, and attended post-graduate courses at the University of Toronto.

Mr. Berghuis served as President of the Pacific Northwest Society in 1988-1989 and again in 2002-2003, and acted as chairman for the Society's annual symposium. He was the recipient of the James A. Leider Jr. Outstanding Service Award from the Society in 2004, and was co-recipient of the Materials Marketing Award for his contributions to the Society-produced video, "Safety in the Paint Industry." Mr. Berghuis served on the organizing committee for the 2005 Western Coatings Symposium & Show. He is also a member of the British Columbia Paint Manufacturers' Association and was awarded the Raymond J. Tremblay Award for "service to the paint industry" in 1986.

JOE BROWN

Based in the UK, Joe Brown is the market manager for the Can & Coil businesses of Cray Valley SA, part of the French Total group. In this role, he works closely with various manufacturing sites throughout the world, including CCP in the United States. A graduate of London College of Printing, with a degree in printing ink technology, he has worked in the coatings industry for 41 years.

Mr. Brown is a member and Past-President of the British Society. In recognition of his significant contributions to the Society, he received its Distinguished Service Award. Mr. Brown was a member of the FSCT Board of Directors from 1997-2006, and was a member of the organization's Executive Committee from 2002-2006. Most recently, he served on the FSCT Alternate Events Steering Committee and the FSCT/OCCA Collaboration Committee. Mr. Brown is a member of the European Resin Manufacturers Association and has served on its Executive Committee.

NATU C. PATEL

Natu Patel has held the position of technical manager of Ace Hardware's Paints Div., Matteson, IL, since 1985. Previously, he was employed as a chemist with Standard T Chemicals and Enterprise Companies. Involved in the coatings industry for 31 years, he received a B.S. Degree in Chemistry and an M.S. Degree in Organic Chemistry from Gujarat University in India.

A member of the Chicago Society (CSCT) since 1979, Mr. Patel served as President in 1995, and has been a member of numerous committees within the Society. He was the recipient of the Society's Outstanding Service Award in 1998 and the Award of Excellence for the growth of CSCT in 2002. He has been a member of the FSCT Board of Directors since 2002. Active on the NPCA AIM Steering Committee since 1998, Mr. Patel is also a member of SSPC and the Chicago Paint & Coatings Association.

KEVIN PELLING

Kevin Pelling is the senior account manager-Coatings and Inks, with L.V. Lomas Ltd., Brampton, Ont., Canada. In the coatings industry for over 26 years, he received a Bachelor's Degree from the Chemical Technology Program at Ryerson Polytechnical University.

Mr. Pelling was a member of the FSCT Board of Directors from 2000-2006 and served on its Executive Committee from 2004-2006. In addition, he has served on the FSCT Membership Services Committee, Nominating Committee, and was Chair of the Society Secretaries Award Committee. A member of the Toronto Society, he twice served as President (1996 and 1999), was Chair of the Membership and Nominating Committees, and was a Trustee of the Society's Education Scholarship Fund. He was recently named the Society Representative to serve on the FSCT Society Liaison Council. In 1991, he received a Merit Citation from FSCT for substantially increasing the Toronto Society's membership.

Mr. Pelling is also a member of NACE, the Oil & Colour Chemists' Association, the Canadian Professional Sales Association, and SSPC.

Elections by the general membership will be held in December 2006. Voting will primarily take place electronically through the FSCT website. Members who require paper ballots are requested to contact FSCT Headquarters.
