Nominations Now Being Accepted for Sixth Annual Heroines in Technology Awards.


ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- The March of Dimes and Women in Technology (WIT), the premier organization contributing to the success of professional women in the Washington technology community, are issuing a call for nominations for an award program that recognizes women in the technology industry who have used their experience, knowledge and skills to benefit our community. In addition, one woman-owned or -run company will be recognized for extraordinary commitment to local philanthropy. The nominations deadline for the sixth annual Heroines in Technology awards is August 1, 2006.

The 2006 Heroines in Technology will be honored at an awards dinner on October 27, 2006, at the Hilton McLean Tysons Corner. The event will include live and silent auctions. All proceeds from the evening will benefit the March of Dimes National Capital Area Chapter.

"We are thrilled to partner again with the March of Dimes on this exciting program, and look forward to another memorable evening as we celebrate the achievements of women who balance demanding careers in technology with a strong commitment to philanthropy and making a difference in our community," said Gayle Sweeney, president of Women in Technology and director of Web Presence at Sprint Nextel. "We have been amazed at the accomplishments of the women who have been nominated in previous years, and look forward to receiving another remarkable set of nominations for this year's awards."

The 2005 honorees were Linda Berdine, president of G&B Solutions; Eleanor Sullivan Friday, deputy associate deputy secretary of Policy, Portfolio Oversight and Execution, Department of Veterans Affairs; and Lisa Jaworski, principal security engineer, SAIC. Lynda Alicudo, managing director of Alicudo & Associates LLC, was the Lifetime Achievement Award winner. The corporate honoree was ENC ENC - Chief Engineman (Naval Rating)

Nominees will be considered from all segments of the technology industry in the Washington, D.C., area, including Biotechnology, IT Service Providers, Hardware, Software, Telecommunications, Government, Medical Technology and the Internet.
