Long-term disabilityNokia has unveiled a new range of solutions for 3G networks and mobile Internet application platforms for operators and service providers. The new solutions and platforms, which were unveiled at the UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) The GSM implementation of the 3G wireless phone system. The Nokia mPlatform Solution is an open platform for operators and service providers to deploy mobile Internet services, and is network and terminal independent so it works across various access methods from WAP to GRPS See GPRS. to 3G and fixed Internet technologies. Nokia has also announced the Nokia mPosition and Nokia mCatch location-based services solutions. Nokia's new family of WCDMA (Wideband CDMA) A 3G high-speed digital data service provided by cellular carriers that use the TDMA or GSM technology worldwide, including AT&T (formerly Cingular) and T-Mobile in the U.S. base stations supports the Nokia Smart Radio Concept and enables operators to improve capacity by up to 75% and use roughly 30% fewer sites compared to traditional rollout methods. The range comprises three new base stations - Optima, Optima Compact and Optima Supreme - which are built on the Nokia UltraSite WCDMA Base Station and site solution. All are available from the second half of 2001. Nokia's new Common Radio Resource Management (CRRM CRRM Conventional Radio Resource Management ) solution is claimed to offer a breakthrough in IP Radio Access Network Technology. CRRM places radio resource control for several radio network access standards into a single server and increases network capacity by up to 50%. The Nokia NetAct Configurator family of network management solutions unveiled by Nokia is designed to support a smooth transition to next generation networks and will provide 'significant' cost and efficiency benefits, Nokia claims. Finally the Nokia 3G SGSN SGSN Serving GPRS Support Node combines the power of IP routing with the flexibility of mobile networks and is designed to be optimised for the new levels and types of traffic in 3G.
