), the infrastructure arm of Nokia Corporation, today announced from Inktomi Investor Day an agreement to deliver carrier-class infrastructure software for wireless network operators. This agreement will enable the delivery of next-generation wireless data services and applications to both current and Third Generation networks. Together, Inktomi and Nokia will provide operators with a scalable platform for offering revenue-generating mobile services, providing wireless subscribers worldwide with high-performance, reliable access to content and applications.

Nokia will integrate the Inktomi Traffic Server(tm) network cache, deployed in the world's largest networks as the default proxy cache A facility in a proxy server that caches incoming Web pages on the hard disk. If the next page requested by a browser is already in the proxy cache, the page is retrieved locally instead of from the Internet. With proxy caches, the browsers must be configured to use the proxy server. , with its Nokia Artus Messaging Platform WAP Gateway (Wireless Application Protocol gateway) Software that decodes and encodes requests and responses between the smartphone microbrowsers and the Internet. It decodes the encoded WAP requests from the microbrowser and sends the HTTP requests to the Internet or to a local  and Nokia Artus MAX Platform for its Mobile Internet Service Delivery platform. The combined solution is an open standards based platform for the delivery of wireless data and will support current and emerging protocols and services. This integration will provide wireless operators with a highly scalable and secure wireless data delivery solution designed to ensure that applications built today can seamlessly adapt to rapidly evolving standards, thereby protecting the operators' investments and their competitive position in the wireless marketplace.
