By Bob Linahan For The Register-Guard At the Springfield Utility Board, we pride ourselves on service. Springfield residents already know about our reliable water and electric service, which we provide at the area's lowest rates. Many have also had personal experience with our customer service philosophy, which compels us to care for ratepayers like the customer-owners they are. But some residents don't realize the extent of SUB's commitment to community service, perhaps the most important service we offer. As a customer-owned and customer-driven utility, with a board of directors elected by Springfield residents, we see the importance of giving back to the community we serve. Unlike private utilities, SUB's goal is not to increase profits. Instead, we focus on keeping our electric and water rates affordable - while delivering great service and bettering the community we live in. For SUB and its staff, contributing to the welfare of our community is more than a job - it is central to the system of core beliefs that govern public utilities. One of the ways SUB gives back each year is through our Project Share program. This special fund helps low- and fixed-income residents with winter heating emergencies. Each year through a variety of events and donation drives, we collect tens of thousands of dollars for the Project Share program. Last year, SUB-directed events alone raised more than $30,000 for the cause. On Wednesday in honor As a verb, to accept a bill of exchange, or to pay a note, check, or accepted bill, at maturity.
