No democratic opposition. (Letters to the Editor)."Bush Follows the Road Map" (May issue) is an impeccable synopsis of the dangers of the current Bush Administration to people at home and abroad. The last paragraph speaks of contacting our representatives. I have contacted my representatives, both Republican and Democrat, and found my concerns falling on deaf ears. The insidious insidious /in·sid·i·ous/ (-sid´e-us) coming on stealthily; of gradual and subtle development. in·sid·i·ous ( n-s d acts of the Bush Administration would be much more difficult to pass were there a Democratic opposition. Aside from Barbara Lee of California and a handful of others at the national level, there is no opposition. The Democratic Presidential contenders seem to be trying, Dennis Kucinich being a notable exception, to show how tough they are on defense. Bottom line: There is no righteous and loud indignation from most national Democrats. Most are strongly supportive of the Patriot Act. Until all progressives vote Green in the absence of Kucinich as the Democratic finalist (a nonpossibility given the corporate control of that party) you can give up your illusions about the national Democratic leadership. And do not take the blame away from the 95 percent of national Democrats who are more concerned with their political futures than with any sense of human decency or reason.
