No comply: skateboarding speaks on authority.

This is an interesting project (one of four conceived of by the folks at Funnotfame) to encourage the skateboarding community to speak out about particular topics. In the interest of full disclosure, I wrote a chapter for this volume, but I do think the project turned out particularly well and it makes for some engaging reading. The chapters are all relatively short, no more than about six pages and as short as a couple paragraphs, so it is easy to consume this one in small bites rather than trying to get through the whole thing in one sitting (it makes for great road trip reading). The essays range from personal stories of skate harassment to theorizing on the role of skateboarding vis-a-vis authority and society to near apologetic appraisals of the police (ouch). While there are a few that echo the "my town sucks and cops suck" mentality of letters to the editor, most rise far above that level, proving that skateboarders can be deep thinkers when the time is right. There's plenty of names you'll recognize in the long list of authors. You can look this one up on line for more info
