No clarity and no freedom for nurses (Canada).Calgary--In an article in the Calgary Sun The Calgary Sun is a daily newspaper published in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It is a division of Sun Media, a Quebecor company. First published in 1980, the tabloid-format daily replaced the long-running broadsheet newspaper, The Albertan. (May 30), Catholic Bishop Fred Henry deplored the euphemisms and double talk employed by Calgary's Foothills Hospital in defending its indefensible eugenic eu·gen·ic adj. 1. Of or relating to eugenics. 2. Relating or adapted to the production of good or improved offspring. abortions (see "Calgary hospital silences critics," Catholic Insight, June, p. 23). The Foothills' "developmental clinic" selects babies with genetical handicaps either for treatment or execution. In the case of the preborn, the latter is delicately called "induction of labour". For babies outside the womb, it is, of course, infanticide infanticide (ĭnfăn`təsīd) [Lat.,=child murder], the putting to death of the newborn with the consent of the parent, family, or community. Infanticide often occurs among peoples whose food supply is insecure (e.g. or euthanasia euthanasia (y 'thənā`zhə), either painlessly putting to death or failing to prevent death from natural causes in cases of terminal illness or irreversible coma. , never so designated. Stated the Bishop: "It is the essentially duplicitous nature of euphemisms which makes them so attractive to those who have something to hide....Securing a court order to protect, supposedly, the confidentiality of specific internal documents continues the concealment." Meanwhile, nurses are required to participate in these terminations. There is no "choice" for them. In early June the Foothills hosptial decided to release cocuments to show there is no cover-up. These same papers also revealed nurses being coerced to participate in extermination extermination mass killing of animals or other pests.
