No More Mexico.

DENVER-BASED KN ENERGY IS SELLING OUT IN MEXICO, AND A host of companies are lining up to take over.

Over the last five years, KN Energy has acquired considerable natural gas assets in Mexico: a pipeline project in Monterrey; a marketing company called Comgas; distribution services in Hermosillo, Sonora; and a 40% stake in Mexico City-based Igasamex, which builds short-haul pipelines.

But earlier this year, KN Energy agreed to merge with Kinder Morgan Kinder Morgan Inc. NYSE: KMI is an American energy company. It is also, through a subsidiary, the general partner of and owner of many of the interests in Kinder Morgan Energy Partners, a publicly traded pipeline and terminal limited partnership. , a closely held A phrase used to describe the ownership, management, and operation of a corporation by a small group of people.

That means jettisoning US$500 million worth of international assets--including those in Mexico. The sell-off will begin as soon as the merger is completed, which, at press time, was scheduled for early October. "[The sale] should be completed by the end of the year," says Bill Garner William 'Bill' Garner (born 14 December 1947 in Leicester) is a retired English footballer.

Sempra, which owns natural gas concessions in Mexicali and Chihuahua, backed out of a merger with KN Energy earlier this year. Gaz de France runs concessions to serve Reynosa and the suburbs around Mexico City, while Repsol has natural gas concessions in Toluca and Monterrey. Enron and Reliant Energy, two other likely bidders both based in Houston, have taken a look but according to insiders, decided to pass on the natural gas opportunities.
