No Manitoba Legal Aid for suspected gang members.

 -- Manitoba changed the rules for suspected gang members who seek Legal Aid when they are charged with a crime. They will now have to prove they are not able to pay their legal fees before qualifying for legal aid.

"If a person is charged with a criminal organization offence OFFENCE, crimes. The doing that which a penal law forbids to be done, or omitting to do what it commands; in this sense it is nearly synonymous with crime. (q.v.)  Minister Gord Mackintosh Gord Mackintosh (born July 7, 1955) is a politician in Manitoba, Canada. He is currently a cabinet minister in the New Democratic Party government of Gary Doer.

Mackintosh was born in Fort Frances, northwestern Ontario, and was educated at the University of Manitoba.

A financial investigation will be conducted on suspected gang members to determine their qualification.

The change is part of new legal aid legislation introduced in the legislature. The changes are a response to the concerns about illegal gang activity in the province. Manitoba's legal aid system has provided lawyers in a number of high profile cases.
