The first in a projected five-book series, this historical mystery takes place in England prior to the onset of WW I. Cambridge professor Joseph Reavley is at a student soccer match when his brother, Matthew, interrupts with news of a car crash that has killed their parents. This event is made worse when it becomes clear that their father was carrying a clandestine document to Matthew (a member of the secret service) concerning national security, and it appears that the accident was not an accident at all. Reader Page is an actor and a professor--the perfect choice for this dark tale. He narrates in multi-voice, employing lower tones, posh accents, and reading speed to differentiate among the characters. The result is appropriately very British. Perry's fans will clamor for this engrossing engrossing, in English law, practice of acquiring a monopoly of goods in order to sell them at an inflated price.
