Nippon Paper to Deploy Biomass Power Generation Facilities at Its Plants.


Tokyo, Japan, July 29, 2005 - (JCNN JCNN Japan Corporate News Network ) - Nippon Paper announced on July 28 that it will introduce biomass power generation facilities to its Fuji Plant and Iwakuni Plant. The facilities are expected to help reduce heavy oil consumption by 190,000 liters annually, an equivalent of a saving of the resource costs by 5.2 billion yen ($46 mil). They will also contribute to reduction of carbon dioxide carbon dioxide, chemical compound, CO2, a colorless, odorless, tasteless gas that is about one and one-half times as dense as air under ordinary conditions of temperature and pressure.  emissions by 480,000 tons per year.

The facilities at the Fuji and Iwakuni plants are scheduled to be commissioned in October 2007 and in February 2008, respectively.
