Candidates include a mix of seated lawmakers, rivals from across the eight counties of Lakes state, key advisors and commissioners drawn from the state government headed by Lt-Gen. Daniel Awet Akot, and higher-level figures. One politician coming from Khartoum, Andrew Makur Thou, in an interview this week at a hotel in Rumbek affirmed, "I am Ambassador General Andrew Makur Thou, nominating myself to contest for the post going to Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly (SSLA). There are three of us contesting for this one post of the constituency in Yirol West County. I am here with all my documents, everything is available, I came from Khartoum as presidential advisor and I need to win this election".
