Nike donates soccer fields valued at $1 million.


Nike is celebrating the theme "Joga Bonito Joga Bonito (which means 'Play Beautiful ' in Portuguese) is a football-oriented social network service created by Nike and Google, based upon Google's orkut. Nike will build three fields in Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. , Calif., three fields in New York New York, state, United States

, N.Y., and four fields in Chicago, Ill. Donations also include soccer equipment for 12 other cities.

Fields donated will be constructed using synthetic grass and designed to promote the Brazilian futsal style of small-field soccer that emphasizes ball control and foot skills. Field materials will consist of about 20 to 25 percent Nike Grind Rubber, a material made from recycled athletic shoes.

Nike held an event in Los Angeles in late April to kick off the field donations. U.S. soccer stars Landon Donovan and Brandi Chastain visited children at the Los Angeles City Department of Recreation and Parks' Glassell Park for the dedication of its new soccer field, the first to be dedicated.
