Nichols Research Announces New President and Chief Operating Officer.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 26, 1998--Michael J. Mruz, Chief Executive Officer of Nichols Research Corporation (NASDAQ:NRES), today announced that Charles A. Leader, 47, has been named President and Chief Operating Officer of Nichols. He will assume his duties in Washington, DC, November 2, 1998.

From 1994 to 1998, Mr. Leader was an executive with Hughes Aircraft Company, starting as a Transition Executive with responsibility for integrating several business units into a single $7 billion company. In 1995, he was named President of Hughes Information Technology Systems, a $1 billion software intensive systems integration company. In 1997, he was named President of Hughes Information Systems, a $2.8 billion information systems, training, and professional services firm. Prior to his Hughes tenure, he was with McKinsey & Company, Inc. where he had a successful 10-year career, attaining partner status. He was co-leader of McKinsey's Aerospace/Defense Practice and an active member of its automotive, electronics, and manufacturing practice areas.

Mr. Leader received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1973 and joined the United States Marine Corps where he was an infantry officer and parachutist. He received an MBA from the Harvard Business School in 1984. He and his wife Becky have three children and reside in McLean, Virginia.
