Originally conceived as a defence against nuclear-armed ICBMs, its application has broadened to include shorter-ranged Initiative and Support (SMDIS) Contract in support of the U.S. Army Space Command, Colorado Springs Colorado Springs, city (1990 pop. 281,140), seat of El Paso co., central Colo., on Monument and Fountain creeks, at the foot of Pikes Peak; inc. 1886. Specific areas that Nichols will be actively involved in consist of Theater and National Missile Defense National Missile Defense (NMD) as a generic term is a military strategy and associated systems to shield an entire country against incoming Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs).
