The workshop includes presentations on original research in three parallel tracts and a day of tutorials. Starting originally from ATM networking, the workshop has been continually extending its focus to switching and routing aspects of IP, optical networks, and wireless communications. The purpose of the workshop is to share research results, experiences, and ideas among researchers, developers, and service providers in the field of data, voice and multimedia communications using ATM, IP, and other high-speed switching and routing technologies.

Topics of interest include ATM networks, Optical networks, Gigabit/terabit routers, ATM/IP integration, IP/WDM IP/WDM Internet Protocol Over Wavelength Division Multiplexing Network  integration, MPLS (1) (MultiProtocol Lambda Switching) The earlier name for GMPLS. See GMPLS.
