Commenting on the accelerated rate of commitments by PC OEMs planning to use NexGen's fifth-generation performance, x86-compatible processors, Atiq Raza, president and chief executive officer said: "Once we began shipping production volume of the Nx586 processor family, we expected PC OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  adoption to grow rapidly. But the current rate of sign-ups, since Comdex, has surpassed our expectations."

NexGen continues to experience "an avalanche of demand and interest activity," Raza said, that is not limited to a particular customer segment, but is coming from new Tier 1 and Tier 2 companies, as well.

"An increasing number of PC OEMs are demanding our Pentium alternative. They recognize the value to their customers is associated with their own name and branded systems, rather than with the name on the microprocessor inside" and, he added, "thus are adopting our Nx586 because of the superior value proposition these products bring to end-users."

The Nx586, which entered volume production in September at P100, P90, P80 and P75 performance levels, is the only Pentium alternative currently in production and shipping in volume.
