Some programs provide a search and organization tool for both newsgroups and feeds as well as local e-mail messages, contacts and other on the flagship News at Ten programme - sparking a race for his job. Buerk has told Beeb bosses that after a news- reading career spanning two decades he has had enough. The 56-year-old wants to step down to concentrate on other "high profile" projects within the corporation. He will leave in November. He said: "By November 1, I will have presented the main evening news more than 4000 times. It's more than enough." Insiders say likely successors include George Alagiah, Huw Edwards or Kirsty Young. |
