Terenzio Going Online to Do Web Sites for Sports Fans

WAY back in the 1990s, when dedicated sports fans craved their daily dose of scores and statistics, they turned to television or radio.

Now, using rapidly advancing technology, John Terenzio, new president of broadband services at Broadband Sports Inc., intends to give fans a lot more options.

The Santa Monica-based company creates Web sites for use by a variety of media clients, including television and radio stations, and Internet providers.

In his new role, Terenzio is in charge of creating, developing and supervising all audio and visual programming for those sites, which he said appeal to "hardcore" sports fanatics.

"They have a knowledge of their interests, and they are extremely dedicated consumers," Terenzio said.

With sports-related Web sites popping up rapidly, competition is fierce for the attention of fans. So the strategy of Broadband Sports is to offer unique content.

"We have the largest collection of superstar athlete Web sites, we have a collection of the top sports writers, and we have a fantasy game service as well," he said. "We don't need to compete on the general battlefield, like giving scores all the time."

There are a number of challenges connected with doing the sites.

"We have to take raw content and program it successfully for radio, television and the Web. And they all have to be good," Terenzio said. "The television viewers' expectations are different from the expectations of the Web viewer."

With a background in television production, Terenzio said being involved with Web programming has brought a new excitement to his career.

"I've had the opportunity to be involved with television over the last 15 years, and I loved it," he said. "All of a sudden, this new medium comes along. How many times does a person get to do what they love in two different mediums? I feel very lucky."
