News.Since September of last year, the Muskoka, Nipissing, Parry Sound Parry Sound, town (1991 pop. 6,125), S Ont., Canada, on Parry Sound, an inlet of Georgian Bay of Lake Huron. It is an active port and the center of a popular vacation area. Local Training and Adjustment Board's 2004/2005 Passport to Prosperity Campaign has been heightening awareness of school- to-work transition programs amongst students, parents and community stakeholders Stakeholders All parties that have an interest, financial or otherwise, in a firm-stockholders, creditors, bondholders, employees, customers, management, the community, and the government. throughout the districts of Muskoka, Nipissing and Parry Sound. This year's activity based approached has proved to be the most successful, delivering many exciting events in partnership with community stakeholders, including Education, throughout the districts. Because of the success of these events, the Campaign has successfully recruited hundreds of new employers to the Muskoka, Nipissing, Parry Sound Local Training and Adjustment Board's Passport to Prosperity database and informed dozens more of the benefits of school-to-work opportunities. More employers have become involved with their local schools in programs such as; cooperative education

All provide students with an opportunity to enhance classroom learning with planned learning in the workplace. These opportunities can help all students plan their careers and develop the important skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary for future successes in the work place. Some of this year's Campaign highlights include: Bridges to Better Business: (Muskoka, North Bay and Parry Sound) A day aimed at assisting small businesses by offering various networking opportunities, interactive workshops and an after hours Adv. 1. after hours - not during regular hours; "he often worked after hours" trade show. Facilities toured included the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital, The Pines Long term Care Facility and the Simcoe Muskoka Health Unit. Muskoka Industry Tour: (Bracebridge) This tour took local educators "Behind the Closed Doors" of local industries True North Log Homes, Muskoka Roof Truss and Woodsmiths of Muskoka in order that they become more aware of the local employment opportunities available. Women in Business Symposium: (Gravenhurst) A two day event highlighting and honouring those women who have made a significant contribution to the Muskoka business community. Workshops, presentations and a networking tradeshow were only a few of the events highlights. Parry Sound Industry Tour: (Parry Sound) Members of the Parry Sound community were exposed to a variety of employers in the area and were able to discuss the various employment options that exist in each industry. Employers visited included: Ross Windows and Doors, Found Aircraft and Conner Industries. Back to Business 101: (North Bay) A Business Centre initiative designed to provide information and guidance to high school students regarding making decisions early on to prepare for their financial future. Explore the Trades and More!: (North Bay) A one-day fair devoted to exploring a career within the skilled trades. This event was host to over 50 exhibitors and over 800 attendees. Nipissing Industry Tour: (North Bay) Local teachers were able to "Go Behind the Closed Doors" of local industries Plastitech Products, JN Precise and Trans Canada Pipeline. Cardboard Boat Races A cardboard boat race is a common school-spirit competition for students of high school and college age. A typical competition format allows competitors a fixed build time, using only a predetermined number of cardboard sheets, glue, adding machine tape, and paint. : (North Bay and Bracebridge) Hosted by the OYAP OYAP Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Programs coordinators of each region, this all day event allowed students to design, construct and test out watercraft made of cardboard, duct tape duct tape n. Parry Sound Job Fair: (Parry Sound) A one day event where members of the public including secondary school students were invited to meet and gather information about local employers and service providers in the area. Youth Extravaganza ex·trav·a·gan·za n. 1.
