The difference between Todd Souza's community newsletter and the regular news is clear. `After reading my first edition of Solutions-Local, I noticed my blood pressure had not risen a bit, yet something was happening... yes, it was my heart rate... by God, I was going to volunteer!' says Nancy Carter, a fan of the newsletter.

Two years ago, Todd Souza, the manager of a printing business in Falmouth, Massachusetts Falmouth is a town in Barnstable County, Massachusetts, Barnstable County being coextensive with Cape Cod. The population was 32,660 at the 2000 census. Today Falmouth is well known as the terminal for the Steamship Authority ferries to Martha's Vineyard and as the home of several , decided to start a local newsletter that focused on motivating people to work together to address problems in their community. `I saw that a lot of businesses and non-profit groups were not working together. Also, I was tired of reading and seeing bad news. Ninety-nine per cent of the people here are doing great things and I wanted to promote them.'

Souza says the newsletter has led to changes. An article highlighting the local soup kitchen brought an excellent community response. Celine Holly, director of the soup kitchen, told Souza, `The article gave a lot of volunteers a lift, as we do not get recognized in newspapers.'
