Deweese Elected Executive Director. At the annual SBHS meeting at William Jewell College, Charles W. Deweese was elected executive director of the Southern Baptist Historical Society.

Deweese assumed his responsibilities June 1. The Tennessee Baptist Convention, under the directorship of James Porch, has offered a suite of offices to the society free of charge. The SBHS may be reached at the following:

Budgets: approved a revised budget for 1999 of $143,880 and a budget for 2000 of $168,480.

International Baptist Studies Conference. The second gathering of the International Baptist Studies Conference will he held July, 2000 on the campus of Wake Forest University.

Torbet Prize. The American Baptist Historical Society invites essays in Baptist history to be submitted for its annual Torbet Prize in Baptist History. The winner will be awarded $200, plus publication of the winning essay in American Baptist Quarterly. The essays can be in any area of Baptist history and should be by persons who have not previously published a work of major scholarly significance. Entries should be no more than twenty-five pages in length (excluding notes), typed double-spaced in accordance with The Chicago Manual of Style. Deadline for submission is October 1, 1999. Norman Marring dies. Norman Marring, respected American Baptist historian, died November 6, 1998, in Rock Hill, South Carolina. He was 83 at the time of his death. Among his many books, he co-authored with Winthrop Hudson, A Baptist Manual of Polity and Practice (1963; rev. ed., 1991).
