News 12 New Jersey welcomed by Governor Whitman; Joint venture of Advance Publications and Cablevision's Rainbow Programming praised by New Jersey Devils' owner John McMullen, other dignitaries.


JERSEY CITY, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 6, 1995--Governor Christine Todd Whitman, joining by satellite the press conference announcing NEWS 12 New Jersey, welcomed the groundbreaking 24 hour local cable news network for her state.

The noon press conference at the Liberty Science Center in Jersey City announced the plans for New Jersey's first 24-hour local news channel. It will be launched early in the first quarter of 1996 by a partnership of the NEWS 12 local news organization, a part of Cablevision Systems Corporation's Rainbow Programming Holdings and The Star Ledger, New Jersey's largest newspaper, published by Advance Publications.

As described by Josh Sapan, President of Rainbow Programming Holdings, "NEWS 12 New Jersey brings New Jersey regional news to a new pinnacle. By incorporating the Star-Ledger's strong editorial resources with NEWS 12's broadcasting experience, New Jersey residents will receive the most comprehensive television coverage of New Jersey available anywhere."
