Newmark Retail's 'spectacular' space.


Newmark Retail has announced that it will begin marketing a spectacular multi level retail space, steps away from Grand Central Terminal on East 42nd street.

In the 1940s and 50s, some of the major U.S.  (aka 35-49 East 42nd street) has up to 6,500 square feet available on the ground floor and a 14,500 square foot selling lower level, with ceiling heights of over 14 feet.

"It is rare when a retailer can enter a market and grab the dominant location, and that's what 317 Madison offers," said Steve Durels, Senior Vice President and Director of Leasing at SL Green.

Commerce Bank has already inked a deal for three full floors comprising 60,000 s/f of retail and office space on the corner, SL Green announced last week.

SL Green will work with Commerce Bank to redevelop the building, transforming the ground-level into a retail bank branch, and the second and third floors into the bank's New York City New York City: see New York, city.

Upgrades to the property will include a complete reskinning of the first three stories of the building's facade, the replacement of all storefronts and the installation of dramatic, oversized o·ver·size

 windows giving the exterior of the building a state-of-the-art, contemporary look. These renovations will be consistent with the master plan of the building which has already included renovations of the lobby, corridors and elevator cabs by SL Green.

Jeff Roseman of Newmark Retail and Nick Jekoskin of Interstate Commercial represented the bank in that transaction.
