It is trying to raise money to prevent having to sell off all its church buildings and other properties to compensate the victims. The diocese has sent a letter to all priests in Canada asking them and other individuals to make a contribution of $1,000 each. To date it is has raised $2,350,000 for a needed $5 million initial payment to save the Cathedral. Payments thereafter fall due in the summer of 2006 and 2007, with the final payment in January 2008.
