These companies have joined together with SingTel Magix, Intel Corporation and Efficient Networks in an initial deployment of DSL-Lite, a consumer version of asymmetric digital subscriber line (communications, protocol) Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line - (ADSL, or Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Loop) A form of Digital Subscriber Line in which the bandwidth available for downstream connection is significantly larger then for upstream.  (ADSL) technology that delivers high-speed voice and data transmission over regular telephone lines. The deployment is based on G.Lite DSL technology, the new worldwide standard adopted by the International Telecommunications Union See ITU.

"Aware was first to market with standards-compliant DSL technology," said Roger Fung, Executive Vice President, Asia Pacific Region, Newbridge Networks. "Newbridge and Aware are excited to be working together with companies at the forefront of DSL deployment, such as SingTel Magix, Intel, and Efficient Networks, to provide a cost-effective solution for high-speed broadband access."

"As the leading provider of core technology for DSL, we are pleased to help lead the first DSL-Lite service deployments," added Michael Tzannes, President and Chief Executive Officer, Aware, Inc. "This deployment offers further evidence of the momentum that is building around DSL-Lite, a technology that was standardized only a few months ago."

The initial SingTel Magix deployment, which began in December 1998 with 20 participants, will now expand to 50 users. Data will be collected based on the real-world infrastructure of these participants and will consider many variables, such as age and condition of the local loop, proximity to the central office, home wiring, equipment configurations and types of telephone devices in the home.
