NewAlliance Bank is one of Connecticut's leading community banks, formed in 2004 through the union of New Haven Savings Bank savings bank, financial institution that, until recently, performed only the following functions: receiving savings deposits of individuals, investing them, and providing a modest return to its depositors in the form of interest.  (NHSB NHSB New Haven Savings Bank ), The Savings Bank of Manchester (SBM SBM - Solution Based Modelling ), and Tolland Bank. With $6.2 billion in assets and $3.8 billion in deposits, NewAlliance Bank is the second largest savings bank and the fifth largest bank in Connecticut.

State-of-the-art new signs - displaying NewAlliance Bank's vibrant new logo in its signature red-orange - have gone up at many locations throughout the Bank's branch network. NewAlliance Bank has also unveiled a new tagline - Capital ideas. Human values Human Values is the universal concept that preserves and enhances Homo Sapiens as a species, this applies to every human being on the present universe, anything against this values brings the consequence of a Self Species Extermination Event (SSEE) like hate, racism or war. . Additionally, an extensive advertising campaign begins this week. The campaign will focus on the power of strong alliances, and will have broad exposure through TV, radio, print and outdoor outlets.

Bank officials also announced today the establishment of the NewAlliance Bank Foundation, with over $50 million in assets. To mark the occasion, the Bank's Foundation made two immediate and large grants to the Greater Dwight Development Corporation in New Haven, and the Eastern Connecticut Health Network (ECHN ECHN Electronic Child Health Network ), which serves a 19-town Eastern Connecticut area.

"A new era in Connecticut banking begins today," said Peyton R. Patterson, NewAlliance Bank's Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer. "NewAlliance is a new kind of Bank. It was formed by the coming together of three of Connecticut's best community banks. Working together as one, we have forged strong 'New Alliances' between the Bank, our customers and the communities we serve. Great customer and community relationships are the heritage of NewAlliance Bank, and they are what will distinguish and drive us, now and in the future."

Commenting on NewAlliance Bank's new tagline, Ms. Patterson said, "'Capital ideas. Human values.' says a great deal about what NewAlliance Bank means to our customers and the communities we serve. We are in the business of building and keeping relationships for a lifetime. That requires commitment, investment, and participation. It means we have to be able to see beyond just numbers, and factor in hopes and dreams. It means our promise is to deliver the very best of community banking - the best possible financial products and advice, as well as a personalized customer experience, to individuals and businesses, large and small. In other words Adv. 1. in other words - otherwise stated; "in other words, we are broke"

Customers of the former NHSB, SBM and Tolland Bank will benefit significantly from the formation of NewAlliance Bank. They will immediately have access to a wider network of branches, a broader range of products and services, and more choices about where, when and how to access the Bank's services. For locally-based businesses, NewAlliance Bank seeks to be the best banking choice available - offering a comprehensive range of commercial products and financing options with the highest levels of personal service.

NewAlliance Bank has also taken major steps right from the beginning to demonstrate their commitment to the health and growth of the communities it serves. Through its Foundation, the following grants were announced today:

-- $100,000 will go to the Greater Dwight Development Corporation

to help support the construction of an 8,244 square foot

daycare center in the Greater Dwight neighborhood in New

Haven.

-- $100,000 will go to the Eastern Connecticut Health Network

(ECHN) to develop a program that will significantly enhance

patients' access to the extensive array of women's health Women's Health Definition

system.

In addition to these two grants, NewAlliance Bank, through its Foundation, announced last week a $100,000 grant for Long Wharf Theatre Long Wharf Theatre started life in a warehouse alongside the harbor of New Haven, Connecticut, in 1965, the brainchild of 2 alumni of Yale University, Jon Jory and Harlan Kleiman, intent on creating a resident professional theatre company.  to support its artistic and educational programs. It was the largest corporate grant that Long Wharf Theatre has ever received.

"NewAlliance Bank is acutely aware of its heritage, and is taking special measures Special measures is a status applied by Ofsted, the schools inspection agency, to schools in England when it considers that they fail to supply an acceptable level of education and appear to lack the leadership capacity necessary to secure improvements.  to ensure that it continues as the leading community-focused bank in the region," said Ms. Patterson. "The grants announced today are just the beginning. And our commitment is more than just financial. It's a commitment to values, and it can be found throughout this entire organization - from the loan officers who have been hired specifically to make sure people know how to capitalize on Cap´i`tal`ize on`

In conjunction with NewAlliance Bancshares, Inc.'s initial public offering, $40 million in stock was contributed to the NewAlliance Bank Foundation, bringing its total assets to over $50 million (based on the current share price of the stock).

Of that total, $25 million will be transferred to an independent foundation overseen by a Board that includes community and civic leaders from the New Haven area.

The Bank also recently announced a new program called "NewAlliance for Neighborhoods," which has designated more than $27 million to fund loans for affordable housing in Greater New Haven Greater New Haven is the metropolitan area whose extent includes those towns in the U.S. state of Connecticut that share an economic, social, political, and historical focus on the city of New Haven. It occupies the south-central portion of the state in a radius around New Haven. . This fund will include $6 million in loans and investments to support low- and moderate-income areas at interest rates of two percent.

Customers of the former NHSB exhibited a strong vote of confidence in NewAlliance Bank during the initial public stock offering of NewAlliance Bancshares, Inc. The subscription was oversubscribed Refers to connecting more users to a system than can be fully supported if all of them were using it at the same time. Networks and servers are almost always designed with some amount of oversubscription, counting on the fact that everybody does not need the service simultaneously.  in the first eligibility category - eligible depositors of NHSB as of June 30, 2002. In sum, more than 23,000 orders were received. NHSB's mutual-to-stock conversion was the largest ever in the history of banking.

NewAlliance Bank executed a large-scale branch conversion operation in order to fold together the 36 former NHSB branches with the 10 former Tolland Bank branches. A similar conversion in September will bring the 28 Savings Bank of Manchester branches into the single NewAlliance Bank network.
