New-style feeder comes in a larger size.

A novel screwless bulk-solids feeder is available in a larger model and is now being incorporated into gravimetric blending systems by Colormax Ltd. in England and its parent, K-Tron International, Pitman, N.J. The new feeding system, called Posimax by Colormax and the Bulk Solids Pump by K-Tron, was introduced last year (visit www.plasticstechnology.com/articles/kuw/compnd/com136.html). K-Tron will introduce this month the third and largest model, BSP-150, with four rotating chambers. Previous BSP models have one and two chambers. The new model BSP-150 feeds up to 160 cu ft/hr.

This new positive-displacement feeder uses two rotating discs that form the sides of a rotating chamber or chambers. They move pellets in a plug-flow fashion without frictional heat or damage. The feeders are said to be up to twice as accurate as screw or belt feeders. They can operate in volumetric or loss-in-weight mode.

Both Colormax and K-Tron are integrating the Posimax/BSP feeders into weigh blenders. They are one of four feeder choices available on K-Tron's new K4G continuous gravimetric blenders. The latter can take up to eight feeders. The K4G also has K-Tron's new SFT II weighing technology, its newest feeder controls, and a compact frame with integral support for vacuum refill systems.
