New way to test colorant dispersibility.

Davis-Standard Corp. in Pawcatuck, Conn., has combined a standard 1-in. extruder with a melt pump, pressure sensors, filter screen, control panel, and display to test how well a color masterbatch disperses in a compound. An optional computer is needed to plot the pressure changes. The test device is called the KXE FPV-pump. It tests masterbatches against the new European DIN and EN standards that are required for many global compounds and are more stringent and quantifiable than previous ASTM standards of dispersion. The FPV tester can be supplied with a narrow tape die and hauloff so it can test for gels at the same time.
