New video compression tool from Horizons saves time and improves quality.SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 9, 1996--A new toolset that provides a consistent environment for the compression of video was introduced Tuesday Tuesday: see week. by Horizons Technology Inc. (HTI HTI Haiti (ISO Country code) HTI High Tech Institute HTI Hand Tools Institute HTI Hamilton Island, Queensland, Australia (Airport Code) HTI Horizontal Technology Integration ) at MacWorld - San Francisco San Francisco (săn frănsĭs`kō), city (1990 pop. 723,959), coextensive with San Francisco co., W Calif., on the tip of a peninsula between the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay, which are connected by the strait known as the Golden . Power!Video Handyman provides the video editor with increased options for control of the video being processed, in order to reduce overall compression time, lower the data rate, and at the same time, improve video playback Playback could mean:
The toolset supports TrueMotion-S and other video codecs (1) A hardware circuit that converts analog video (NTSC, PAL, SECAM) into digital code and vice versa. The term may refer to only the A/D and D/A conversion, or it may include the compression technique for further reducing the signal (definition #2 below). See codec. including MPEG (Moving Pictures Experts Group) An ISO/ITU standard for compressing digital video. Pronounced "em-peg," it is the universal standard for digital terrestrial, cable and satellite TV, DVDs and digital video recorders (DVRs). , Cinepak and Indeo video. Designed for both Macintosh and PC platforms, the Macintosh version will be released in Q1, the PC version in late spring. The toolset provides the ability to select filters which reduce artifacts artifacts see specimen artifacts. for faster playback at higher quality. Power!Video Handyman also allows the user to compress and add audio to the compressed video compressed video - video compression . The toolset windows allow the selection of a destination file format, and ensure the proper placement of the audio in the designated file format. It prepares standards and documentation for TV production. time codes can be added to the file, as appropriate, to allow accurate editing and compression of the files in the future. There are three basic elements in the Power!Video Handyman toolset:
1. Scale/Pulldown Application Tool. This provides a user
interface to select a raw video input file, and implement
various operations on that file, such as:
o Quality scaling with 2-D or sequential 1-D 17-tap filters
- Specify output width x height
- Cropping
- Field 1, 2 or 3 Full Image
o Reverse telecine
- Remove duplicate fields introduced by telecine
- Data rate reduction and smooth playback
o Frame rate conversion
2. AVI <-> MOV converter. This stand-alone program provides an
interface that allows the user to select an already compressed
video file and:
o Convert from RIFF AVI to QT MOV format, or from QT MOV to
RIFF AVI formats
o Modify the audio to include SMPTE time codes
o Preserve the audio track
"Power!Video Handyman is also the only converter available that
supports all of the popular video codecs directly without using
special tools, such as Resedit on the Macintosh," said Maurice
Naragon.
3. Compression Applications. This application is designed for
"smart" decision analysis of the video to optimize compression
based on the type of material to be compressed. The
application selects the best compressor for each section of video
and allows the user to easily adjust the data rate, based on
calculated data rate curves. The user interface provides these
options:
o Compression parameters and filters may be applied on
user-defined segments
o Codec switching
o Automatic detection of scene changes
o Filter list may be specified to reach a targeted data rate
o Resubmissions of user-specified sub-segments
o Full history of changes allows "backing out"
o Preview of filtered and compressed video in the same size as
the intended output window
o Data rate analysis
o Comprehensive list of filters not available with other
tools
o QT output file format
