The United States Tennis Association (USTA) is the national governing body for the sport of tennis in the United States.

) has been working with NRPA to promote tennis at the local level through grants and programming resources for local agencies. The goal has always been to help improve teaching and skill development, increase educational opportunities for professionals, provide a format for play (USA Team Tennis), and increase opportunities for facility improvements.

In January January: see month. , NRPA and USTA rolled out yet another program aimed at park and recreation professionals--2005's Tennis in the Park initiative has been redesigned to meet local agencies' needs. NRPA and USTA will provide participating communities with a mix of technical assistance, education scholarships, and marketing resources that are appropriate for their agency to help ensure sustainability in local tennis programming. Additionally, cash grants will be offered to communities seeking support for hiring qualified tennis instructors to improve their programs.
