New technology a Catalyst for Falzon.

Three years ago, Canadian TV production and distribution company, Catalyst Entertainment moved into brand new premises in Toronto.

For president Charles Falzon, the move gave his company the "opportunity to reflect on its past and look forward to many promising new years." At a time when the Canadian and international TV market is trying to meet the challenges of new technology, Falzon is preparing the organization for what he knows will become "an unpredictable universe."

The company is rated high in the league of international co-production specialists. It was responsible for more than $10 million worth of productions last year. These included Shining Time Station Shining Time Station was an American spin-off of Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends series, although it was co-created by Britt Allcroft and Rick Siggelkow. The sales arm, Catalyst Distribution, now represents more than 4o producers and broadcasters at the international market. A Catalyst spokesperson said: "Our reputation in this area promotes relationships with broadcasters that are confident in Catalyst's ability to bring their product to the international market efficiently and to generate profit."

One of Catalyst's major producers is Citytv network of Toronto. The Citytv network's Fashion Television series has been sold to 50 countries and translated into more than 20 languages.

Recently added to these Citytv products is a spinoff of Fashion Television, which will focus on the glamorous lifestyles of supermodels.

An illustration of Catalyst's approach to the future is Falzon's move to increase the company's resources by employing extra staff. Recent additions to his team are Jim Corston as senior producer, Stephen Kelley as international sales executive, plus Richard Pieklo as director of information programming.
