New technologies capture and record organizational knowledge.
About three quarters of the information and procedural knowledge
that an organization needs to function has never been written down. Most
organizational knowledge, according to current research, is implicit and
exists only in the minds of employees. So when an employee leaves,
irreplaceable knowledge walks out the door.
Fortunately, new technologies are emerging to help organizations
capture and record this knowledge. To learn more about this trend and
its supporting tools, read the IABC Research Foundation's latest
paper, "Knowledge-Capturing Technologies and the Culture of
Change," written by Megan D. Sullivan, winner of the 2004 Student
Call for Papers Competition. Download the paper at www.iabc.com/fdtnweb.
