New software from Emulex simplifies network printing; version 5.0 of Emulex's printer server software broadens compatibility with network protocols, incorporates revised Windows-based printer management utility.

COSTA MESA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 8, 1996--Emulex Corp. (NASDAQ NASDAQ

: EMLX), a leading manufacturer of networking products, Thursday announced software that will make it easier to configure, connect and manage networked printers.

Version 5.0 of Emulex's printer server software (PSSW PSSW Packaging Shipping Solid Waste Council ) allows for easier installation and management of Emulex printer servers on Novell NetWare, Windows NT (TCP/IP TCP/IP

), LAN Manager, LAN Server and AppleTalk networks. The software is shipping now with Emulex's NETJet and NETQue family of printer servers.

For existing NETJet and NETQue customers, the version 5.0 software and supporting documentation is available for upgrades. All Emulex printer servers have on-board flash memory to support software upgrades.

All new NETJet and NETQue printer servers also include version 2.01 of the Emulex NET wizard administrator. The Emulex NET wizard administrator is a Windows-based utility that allows users to configure and update the flash memory of all printer servers on the network from a single workstation.

Emulex NET wizard administrator 2.01 supports all existing features of the Emulex NET wizard administrator utility, including the ability to manage and configure printer servers over gateways, routers and bridges via SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) A widely used network monitoring and control protocol. Data are passed from SNMP agents, which are hardware and/or software processes reporting activity in each network device (hub, router, bridge, etc.  in IPX/SPX See IPX.  and TCP/IP environments.

"This software further demonstrates Emulex's commitment to providing its customers with the features required to easily configure and manage their network printing environments," said Tracy Crowe, marketing manager for Emulex's printer server line.

Version 5.0 of Emulex's printer server software incorporates features designed to reduce the effort required in setting up network printing environments, including:

NetWare Directory Services See eDirectory.

access and response time.

NetBEUI/NetBIOS Print Filters -- The new software also incorporates

NetBEUI and NetBIOS for LAN Manager, LAN Server networks and OS/2

Warp Connect networks, allowing users to print in network native

mode and resulting in less complicated network printing.

Improved AppleTalk Printing -- Version 5.0 software incorporates

improved font spoofing, allowing Emulex-connected printers on

AppleTalk networks to respond to inquiries from a client system,

resulting in faster performance. In addition, version 5.0

The system administrator assigns a range of IP addresses to DHCP and each client computer on the LAN has its TCP/IP  (DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) Software that automatically assigns temporary IP addresses to client stations logging into an IP network. network environments, DHCP simplifies the process of configuring a

printer server's IP address.

Flash Update Utility -- For customers that have Emulex print

servers that do not support the Emulex NET wizard administrator,

there is now a DOS-based utility to upgrade printer servers running

on Ethernet networks via flash memory.
