New session.A new session titled "The Foundation for Physical Therapy and APTA's Efforts to Maximize Funding for Rehabilitation rehabilitation: see physical therapy. Designed to emphasize the importance of rehabilitation research in enhancing physical therapist practice, this session will be especially valuable for those students interested in conducting research after graduation. Various funding sources will be described, as well as APTA's funding advocacy efforts. The session will be co-presented by Foundation Trustee Richard Shields, PT, PhD, FAPTA FAPTA Fellows of the American Physical Therapy Association , and APTA's Research Services Director Marc Goldstein, EdD. Shields is Professor and Director of Graduate Studies at the University of Iowa Not to be confused with Iowa State University. The first faculty offered instruction at the University in March 1855 to students in the Old Mechanics Building, situated where Seashore Hall is now. In September 1855, the student body numbered 124, of which, 41 were women. and Director of the Motor Control and Human Performance Laboratory at the University of Iowa Hospital. From his broad experience as a researcher, teacher, and mentor, he can speak of the importance of clinical research and Foundation funding. He is also a former chair of the Foundation's Scientific Review Committee and a recipient of a 1987 doctoral student support grant. Shields and Goldstein also will discuss a model for how APTA APTA American Physical Therapy Association. , the Foundation for Physical Therapy, and other funding agencies can work together to maximize funding for physical therapist researchers. |
