The General Assembly on 11 December (resolution 44188) welcomed the efforts of the Secretary-General and the current Chairman of the Organization of African Unity Organization of African Unity (OAU), former international organization, established 1963 at Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, by 37 independent African nations to promote unity and development; defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of members; eradicate all forms of (OAU OAU abbr. The Secretary-General told the press that in his talks with the Moroccan side and POLISARIO, he had found "a more propitious atmosphere" and a greater political will to move forward. "That does not mean, however, that all obstacles have been resolved", he noted.
