New reverend mother chosen for SSJD.


Sr. Elizabeth Ann Eckert is the new reverend mother of the Anglican Sisterhood of St. John the Divine The Sisterhood of St. John the Divine is a religious community of nuns in the Anglican Church of Canada.

Founded in Toronto in 1884 by Mother Hannah Grier Coome, the order ministers at St.
 (SSJD), succeeding Sr. Constance Joanna Gefvert.

Sr. Elizabeth Ann assumes her new role as the sixth reverend mother in mid-April. A novitiate director and since 2000, assistant to Sr.

Constance Joanna, she was elected reverend mother Jan. 12.

A forestry graduate at Lakehead University Lakehead University, at Thunder Bay, Ont., Canada; founded 1946 as Lakehead Technical Institute. It achieved university status in 1965. Lakehead has faculties of arts and science, business, education, engineering, forestry, library and information studies, nursing,  in Thunder Bay Thunder Bay, city (1991 pop. 113,946), SW Ont., Canada, on Thunder Bay inlet of Lake Superior. The city was created in 1970 by the amalgamation of the twin cities of Fort William and Port Arthur and two adjoining townships. , Ont., she worked for a number of years in horticulture.

In 1987, Sr. Elizabeth Ann became a member of SSJD and made her life vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience in 1994.

Her ministry at SSJD has included leading retreats and quiet days. She helped to found St. John's House in Montreal, worked in pastoral care at St. John's Rehabilitation Hospital Hospital devoted to the rehabilitation of patients with various neurologic, musculoskeletal, orthopedic and other medical conditions following stabilization of their acute medical issues. , worked as an Education for Ministry mentor, been on the Mother's Council and served on SSJD's board of directors. She has had training as a spiritual director.
