New resources aid Vioxx plaintiffs and their lawyers.

The September 2004 withdrawal from the market of the popular arthritis arthritis, painful inflammation of a joint or joints of the body, usually producing heat and redness. There are many kinds of arthritis. In its various forms, arthritis disables more people than any other chronic disorder.  and acute pain drug Vioxx left millions of patients wondering whether a medicine they relied on to relieve their pain had actually harmed them. The withdrawal was prompted by clinical data indicating that patients taking 25 milligrams or more of Vioxx per day for more than 18 months had an increased risk of cardiovascular events, including heart attack and stroke.

Vioxx maker Merck & Co. estimates that 105 million U.S. prescriptions were written for the drug from May 1999--when it first entered the market--through August 2004 and that about 20 million U.S. patients took it.
