New powerline technician apprenticeship committee at Cambrian.


A new committee consisting of professionals from Powertel Powertel is an Australian telecommunications company that operates urban and inter-city fibre optic networks across Australia. Powertel was launched in August 1998. , Greater Sudbury Greater Sudbury (2006 census population 157,857) is a city in Northern Ontario, Canada. Greater Sudbury was created in 2001 by amalgamating the cities and towns of the former Regional Municipality of Sudbury, along with several previously unincorporated geographic townships.  Hydro, Anixter and CVRD-Inco has been formed at Cambrian College Cambrian College is a college of applied arts and technology in Greater Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. Established in 1967, and funded by the province of Ontario, Cambrian has campuses in Sudbury, Espanola and Little Current.  to address the provincial shortage of skilled workers in the powerline industry.

Known as PowerTech, the committee signed an agreement at the college on April 11 to see to the education and training of powerline apprentices. It will be involved in the registration and sponsorship of apprentices, who will be able to complete in-school requirements for the trade while gaining on-the-job experience through co-op placements.

PowerTech is the first new local apprenticeship apprenticeship, system of learning a craft or trade from one who is engaged in it and of paying for the instruction by a given number of years of work. The practice was known in ancient Babylon, Egypt, Greece, and Rome, as well as in modern Europe and to some extent  committee formed in the province in the last 15 years, and seeks to ensure that qualified employees will be available for a variety of positions within the powerline industry.
