Vatican City--John Paul II has made four key Roman Curia appointments. Cardinal Francis Arinze, 69, is the new prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Sacraments, replacing Cardinal Jorge Arturo Medina Estevez, who resigned last December on his 75th birthday. Cardinal Arinze, in turn, is being replaced on the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue The Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue is a dicastery of the Roman Curia. It was erected by Pope Paul VI on May 19, 1964 as the Secretariat for Non-Christians, and later renamed by Pope John Paul II on June 28, 1988.  by its secretary, Archbishop Michael Louis Fitzgerald, 65.

He succeeds Cardinal Francois Xavier Nguyen Van Thuan François-Xavier Cardinal Nguyễn Văn Thuận (April 17, 1928 to September 16, 2002) was a Cardinal in the Roman Catholic Church. He was the nephew of South Vietnam’s first President, Ngô Đình Diệm, and of Archbishop Ngô Đình Thục. . Lastly, the Holy Father accepted the resignation, for reasons of age, of Cardinal Agostino Cacciavillan, president of the Administration of the Patrimony of the Holy See Administration of the Patrimony of the Holy See (Italian: Amministrazione per il Patrimonio della Santa Sede, abbreviated APSA) is a sub-office of the Prefecture for the Economic Affairs of the Holy See, created in 1967 by the merger of the Administration of the . He is succeeded by Bishop Attilio Nicora (Zenit, Oct 2/02).
