New online resource.EDUCATOR RESOURCE CENTER AT THE MUSEUM OF SCIENCE, BOSTON The Museum of Science (MoS) is a Boston, Massachusetts landmark, located in Science Park, a plot of land spanning the Charles River. Along with over 500 interactive exhibits, the Museum features a number of live presentations throughout the building everyday, along with The new Web database at the Museum of Science, Boston, provides educators with resources that are mapped to national and state standards. The new Educator Resource Center (ERC) offers recommended museum exhibits, programs, and curricular materials, and includes an extensive knowledge base for curriculum materials and science project resources. Christine Cunningham, Vice President of Research at the Museum of Science, explains that museum educators and regional classroom teachers currently map the resources to four documents: the ITEA ITEA International Technology Education Association ITEA Information Technology for European Advancement ITEA International Test and Evaluation Association ITEA International Tuba-Euphonium Association (Baltimore, MD) Standards for Technological Literacy (2000); MA Science and Technology/Engineering Framework (2001); National Science Education Standards The National Science Education Standards (NSES) are a set of guidelines for the science education in primary and secondary schools in the United States, as established by the National Research Council in 1996. (1996); and the NCTM NCTM National Council of Teachers of Mathematics NCTM Nationally Certified Teacher of Music NCTM North Carolina Transportation Museum NCTM National Capital Trolley Museum NCTM Nationally Certified in Therapeutic Massage Principles and Standards for School Mathematics Principles and Standards for School Mathematics was a document produced by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics [1] in 2000 to set forth a national vision for precollege mathematics education in the US and Canada. (2000). The ERC's online resources are correlated with educational standards on three levels. Primary connection: almost all of the criteria for support of the standard are met by the resource. Secondary connection: most of the criteria for support of the standard are met by the resource. Reference: some of the criteria for support of the standard are met, but the support of this standard is not necessarily the focus of the resource. When conducting an online search, browsers can narrow their search by selecting a connection level and standards document that they require. Resources are also evaluated for usability, teacher support, and standards compliance, with annotated comments from the evaluator. Users also can search according to grade range, category, and format (book, DVD DVD: see digital versatile disc. DVD in full digital video disc or digital versatile disc Type of optical disc. The DVD represents the second generation of compact-disc (CD) technology. , Museum of Science presentation, HTML, and Web page). For more information, visit www.mos.org/erc or call 617-723-2500. |
