Below are animals recently added to the endangered species list: Dec. 5, 1997 * Callippe silverspot butterfly The Callippe Silverspot Butterfly (Speyeria callippe callippe) is a federal endangered species in the brush-footed butterfly family Nymphalidae. It is a member of the Heliconiinae, the subfamily known as longwings. The adult has a wingspan of just over two inches. * Alameda whipsnake Dec. 18, 1997 * Pecks cave amphipod * Comal Springs riffle beetle Jan. 7, 1998 * Brother's Island tuatara tuatara (t 'ətär`ə) or tuatera (–tā`rə), lizardlike reptile, Sphenodon punctatus, Jan. 12, 1998 * Mexican gray wolf Jan. 27, 1998 * San Bernardino kangaroo rat March 16, 1998 * Fat threeridge mussel mussel, edible freshwater or marine bivalve mollusk. Mussels are able to move slowly by means of the muscular foot.
