The inaugural issue of ISNA News included articles on the rapid development of the Society (tripling its income in 2000 by bringing in $100,000 in donations and foundation grants); the "Top ten myths about intersex"; and the 1st National Conference on Gender and 5th Annual Lobby Day.

An introductory letter from ISNA's development director, Robin Mathias, states: "We have found that the only way to effect positive change is to deal with the core issue--the invisibility and supposed shame of inter-sex--simultaneously in both the medical and the social realms."

The newsletter also states that about 1 in 2,000 children are "born with genitals that are pretty confusing to all the adults in the room"--making the condition "more common than cystic fibrosis."
