New network expected to set pattern for developmental services.

 will link over 25 agencies and organizations, regional healthcare, recreation, education, and social and community resources. The aim is to provide a single plan of care and coordinate services from many agencies through all stages of a child's development from birth through to age 19. Parents of children with special physical, developmental and communication needs will be able to reach the services through a single phone number (1-866-377-0286).

More than 4,500 children with multiple disabilities in Simcoe and York are on waiting lists. The Network is expected to cut waiting lists and facilitate the coordination of programs. It is funded by the Ministry of Children and Youth Services. Network services are free.

A comprehensive study will evaluate the new model's impact on service delivery to families of children with disabilities. The two-year study is headed by Dr. Gina Browne of McMaster University McMaster University, at Hamilton, Ont., Canada; nondenominational; founded 1887. It has faculties of humanities, science, social sciences, business, engineering, and health sciences, as well as a school of graduate studies and a divinity college.  and will be published internationally.
