New name in direct-drive all-electric presses. (Injection Molding).

A prototype direct-drive electric injection press from Demag Plastics Group, Strongsville, Ohio Strongsville is a city in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 43,858 as of the 2000 Census. The current mayor, Thomas Perciak, was elected in November 2003 following the death of longtime mayor Walter F. Ehrnfelt in May. , made its U.S. debut at last month's NPE NPE NullPointerException (Java)

show. The new series, called the IntElect DD, will be offered in a size range from 50 to 165 tons when it comes on the market next year. The previous IntElect line featured AC servo An electromechanical device that uses feedback to provide precise starts and stops for such functions as the motors on a tape drive or the moving of an access arm on a disk.  motors that powered all primary machine motions via drive belts and ball screws. The direct-drive system eliminates belts by means of ball screws that are extensions of the servo motor spindles.

The direct-drive system is designed with three Siemens high-torque electric motors--two for plasticating and injection and the third for the toggle To alternate back and forth between two states.

toggle - To change a bit from whatever state it is in to the other state; to change from 1 to 0 or from 0 to 1. This comes from "toggle switches", such as standard light switches, though the word "toggle" actually refers to
clamp. An independent belt-drive system is still employed for ejection ejection /ejec·tion/ (e-jek´shun)

, which can overlap clamp movements. Core pull and other secondary movements are accomplished with a compact hydraulic power pack. The system is said to have a top injection speed of 150 mm/sec.

In other news, a 605-ton model is being planned for the company's hybrid hydraulic/electric El-Exis S series. When it appears next year, it will eclipse the 460-tonner unveiled at last month's NPE show as the largest in the series. Tel: (440) 876-6325, www.vandorndemag.com
